Fungus and mold are commonly found in homes or buildings that have sustained water intrusion due to flooding, broken pipes, roof leaks, sewage backups, condensation, humidity, etc.  High moisture levels trapped in certain building materials promote ideal conditions for mold growth. Mold spores are found everywhere: in soil, plants and airborne dust and are introduced by common air space along with flood waters.  They thrive on moist paper products, drywall, wall paper, ceiling tiles, carpets, coverings on insulated pipes, insulation material on wood, and on organic debris.  Untreated water-damaged material allows mold to proliferate. Exposure to mold by building occupants can potentially cause a myriad of health problems due to mycotoxins released by the spores as well as by other fungal fragments. The following are some symptoms that may be caused by mold exposure:  chronic coughing, fatigue, chest congestion and allergies. Some people experience hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a condition similar to viral infection with symptoms such as chills, fever, weakness, muscle pains, cough, and shortness of breath.

Preliminary investigations begin by conducting an interview with the client to gather background information on the areas of concern. A thorough visual inspection is then made to determine the extent of mold growth and diagnostics are performed to determine the temperature and relative humidity or moisture in the air.  Air samples are collected from outside and inside the building when mold is visible and wall checks samples are taken when mold is not visible but moisture levels are high. Samples are analyzed in the laboratory and a report is generated based on analytical results and visual inspection results.
